Everyone's library situation is different, but most libraries offer residents perks, subscriptions, discounts, and freebies. It's up to YOU to discover what you can get from your library!

Most people realize that their local library is a great place to find books to read. After all, this was their original purpose! But today's libraries often do way more for their patrons. Here are some perks that my library and our neighboring community's library offer:

Freebies, Discounts, and Services
  • Printing Perks: 200 free black and white copies per year (100 double-sided), or 40 color copies. Additional weekly print perks for veterans—100 B&W pages and a unique patriotic card.
  • Free Home Delivery: AHML offers monthly delivery of books, movies, and music for those homebound due to illness, age, disability, or caregivers. Talking Book and Braille services for those eligible.
  • Seasonal Programs: Guided meditation, cosplay workshops, art shows, health screenings, tax prep seminars, and more.
  • Museum Adventure Pass: Use your library card for free or discounted entry to over 20 Chicago-area museums and attractions, including Brookfield Zoo, Chicago Botanic Garden, and children’s museums. Valid one pass per household every seven days.
  • Explore More Illinois: Free or discounted admission to dozens of state cultural attractions. Reserve passes online (adults only), limited to two at a time.
  • Special Event & Program Discounts: Exclusive early access and member-only discounts for Friends of the Library book sales and other events. Friends memberships include early sale entry and digital cards.
